Who doesn’t love makeup?!

Whether you are a minimalist, who only wears a tinted moisturizer or a makeup influencer, rocking a full face of makeup. There is makeup for everyone! But what happens when you start to see things turn for the worst and you have no idea what is going on? I have so many clients who come into the spa frustrated that they are breaking out and don’t know why. Well let me tell you a few things you can do to make sure you don’t have to break up with your favorite makeup.

Here is the 3 no no’s:

  1. Using not acne safe products (comedogenic)
  2. Expired makeup
  3. Dirty brushes

Can your makeup break you out or clog your pores?

The answer is yes! But wait there is good news there are thousands of brands out there and it’s all about finding the right one for your skin type. Let’s break it down for you and make it extra easy. All you need to do is check your makeup that you use and make sure it doesn’t have any harmful pore clogging ingredients. Now some products may say “Non-Comedogenic”, but they still will have ingredients that do. Now I have to just say this list is long, but don’t be discouraged. If anything make sure you are checking the first 6 ingredients on the product. The ingredients that are listed first on the product has the largest amount. Just a little tip to follow if you don’t have time to check all the ingredients. I will say I have checked my makeup for years using this list from Face Reality Skin Care has changed my makeup and skincare game. Here is a list to follow: The Pore Cloggers List

Also to save you some time here is some of my favorite foundations that are pore clogger free: For light to medium coverage-Bare Minerals Original Formula & full coverage-Estee Lauder Double Wear or Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk

The clock is ticking on ya beauty!

Even though I know makeup can be expensive and at times liquid gold, makeup does expire. How do you know how long you have? Well there’s this thing called Period after opening (PAO), it’s a little symbol located on the back of the product. It looks like an open cosmetic pot with a number inside. If you use products that are expired you may be exposing yourself to built up bacteria, compromised formula and efficacy, and oils that can start to break down. So make sure to keep it in the recommended time to have the best results and unwanted breakouts to keep that face glowing!

Making sure to wash your makeup brushes

Makeup brushes and sponges are the tools that we need to slay that beautiful makeup look. Above is a real life picture of my makeup brushes and how dirty they can get…ewww. Used daily they can start to harbor bacteria, dirt, and oil. You should wash your brushes at least once a month. Not cleaning your brushes can cause build up and cause unwanted breakouts. So grab those tools, use a makeup brush friendly cleanser, and clean those bad boys to keep your skin happy.

So now there is no need to break up with your makeup. I hope these tips will help you keep having fun with makeup and your skin clear and beautiful. Kiss and MAKEUP!
